DynCorp International Lead C-130 Air Tanker Instructor Captain Bryan Baker and Lead C-130 Flight Engineer Instructor Jeremy Sweitzer were recently approved to operate the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) C-130H aircraft on bailment to CAL FIRE. Both passed an equipment check with the USCG Standardization Team which is based out of Clearwater, Florida.

As a result of the approval of the DI flight crew, other DI airtanker pilots and flight engineers will take instruction from Mr. Baker and Mr. Sweitzer in the USCG aircraft that are bailed to CAL FIRE. This will allow DI’s air tanker pilots to receive airframe specific training and, ultimately, obtain an L-382 Type Rating through the FAA.

DI’s pilots are training to be ready to operate the C-130H aircraft on wildland fires once the aircraft are completed and delivered to CAL FIRE.

USCG LCDR Kevan Hanson wrote, “Overall excellent check ride. Very impressive.”

“This is the next big step in getting CAL FIRE prepared for when the Retardant Drop Systems are installed in the aircraft and they are transferred to us,” said CAL FIRE Chief of Aviation Dennis Brown. “Congratulations to both Bryan and Jeremy.”

Well done Jeremy and Bryan!
